Transfering files from a Windows machine to Linux

How would I transfer a text file on my windows machine
to my Linux computer using a floppy? The file doesn't fit
on a floppy uncompressed, so I need a way of compressing
the file on my windows machine. But how do I uncompress it
after I trasfer the file to my Linux machine?

If you zip it up, etc, Linux can uncompress zipped files. Simply use unzip command I think...

You should be able to compress it in Windows using any zip program and then unzip it in Linux using the program unzip.
