touchpad config

Im using the tpconfig 3.1.3 from

http://www.compass.com/synaptics/

for my portable. It seems I need to remove the current mouse driver and then run tpconfig in the terminal after its been installed. How would I go about rm the current mouse driver?

Here's the start up script that went into

/etc/rc.d/init.d

#!/bin/sh
# touchpad
# description: Startup script to disable touchpad tapping
# For Synaptics or ALPS touchpads.
#
# $Log$
#
# $Id$
#
#

test -r /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions && . /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions

echo ""
echo -n "Turning off Touch-Pad 'tapping' "

if [ -f /usr/bin/tpconfig ]; then
/usr/bin/tpconfig --tapmode=0
if [ $? ]; then
echo_failure
else
echo_success
fi
else
echo_failure
fi
echo ""
exit 0

This disabled my touchpad when I started x. Is there any way to configure this so that I am able to use the standard touchpad functions like I do in windows? Anyone using RH on a laptop with a synaptics touchpad config script I could look at?

touchpad

I had a similar problem, wanted my touchpad to work in linux. Downloaded tpconfig also, but don't think I needed it. What I did was unplugged the mouse (USB) I was using, then rebooted. don't remember if the found new hw screen popped up then or if it booted into command line mode and I ran mouseconfig, but doing one of those I was able to delete the USB config, and then let the system find a mouse. It found my touchpad as a PS/2 mouse, Alps touchpad or something similar, and then it worked fine. I am running RH 7.3 on a dell lat. cpx H
