Oh yes, I forgot to tell you lsmod didn't work. But I went back to try it again and I saw that you told me to do /sbim/lsmod and what do you know, it worked!

UPDATE:
Since the audigy driver is already installed (see above post), we tried simply turning up the volume... no dice. Although the mixer sees the device, the controls are locked. So, we tried to chmod +x +r +w the device (/dev/dsp)... no dice. Same problem, controls are present, but locked. Fair enough, let's try another route: let's try installing the kernel drivers. We found out which one of the many source files should be installed... but guess what! No dice. RPM wasn't playing nicely and claimed that installing the kernel source would conflict with some file or other. We even check to see if the speakers themselves were turned on... which they were, but still no sound.

Since we did this on IM, I thought I'd share the progress, or lack of, in case anyone else has the same problems, or anyone else has any thoughts.

UPDATE:
We got Mandrake installed nicely, and have been working on installing the drivers that are on the sourceforge. Had a slight hiccup with space on the / filesystem, but got around that (mkdir /home/src && ln -s /home/src /usr/src). Kernel sources installed fine. emu-tools.rpm installed fine. Downloaded emu10k1 drivers. Just got to install them.

Now, I've got an SBLive Value which also uses the emu10k1 drivers, so I had a go at installing them myself. No hiccups at all. rmmod all the sound drivers currently running (you may need to leave X to do this), untargz the driver sources, make, make, (su root), make install, make tools, make install-tools, edit /etc/modules.conf and add the line alias sound emu10k1 and save file. Try and play a sound file. Cross your fingers and hope that everything works!
