Question "top" Segmentation Fault

Dear All:

I use the "top" command frequently to monitor running processes
on a development server. The server is Centos 5, and is running
on the Amazon EC2 platform. Whenever I run the top command, and
only the that command, I see the segmentation fault.

First instinct is memory, and I have confirmed that is not the
problem, since the server is now on a new "instance" (different
hardware).

I have looked around and seen any references to a similar problem,
and although this is not mission critical, I do know this happened
sometime after a "yum update" but am sure that would have been
some time ago, and we have updated since.

Any suggestions ?

A corrupt binary perhaps?

Try replacing the package:
# rpm -e --nodeps procps
# yum install procps

Cool cool.

I'd be inclined to check the whole install, though - if there was filesystem corruption, it may not be limited to one file. You can check that the installed files are as they should be with:

# rpm -Va

You can ignore any config files in the output, but if there's any binaries listed, you may have further problems.
