time out?

ok this post is with specific regards to this site.
i'm not sure if it's my own browser settings or something else, but everytime i try to post something i have to do it under 1 minute or so (didn't count) or i'd have already been logged out. then when i re-login, i end up at a 'no thread specified page...
it's hard to post something up so quickly especially if some thinking or typing is needed...

any way of increasing the login time out interval?

thanks and pardon my ignorance...

something has to be wrong with your browser or cookie or something.. cause i haven't heard or had this problem at all. have you tried clearing or deleting your cookie/cache...etc.. and testing it from there??

taz.devil 12-02-2001 10:20 AM

Can't say i've heard of anything like that. And agree your browser or ISP settings must be set weird somewhere.

hm... it's strange because i have tried it from many computers, on both linux and windows... as for the browser cache settings, i don't think that's the problem coz sites like yahoo and other e-mail sites seem to work fine...

perhaps it's an ISP problem... ? but i don't forsee them being able to help me... they'll probably tell me it's specific to this site... another useless cycle i'll be making. probably have to find out for myself...

just to clear things up, i don't mean to sound accusatory to this website. if anything, i truly appreciate this forum very much and that's probably why i'm posting this up in the first place. so no hard feelings anyone. and thanks to the people who replied to this post in a very understanding manner. very much appreciated...

Just a shot in the dark, but are you running a firewall? Perhaps the IP accidentaly made it into your deny or something list? Just a thought, I would assume it would be blocked completely if you were.

gui10 12-02-2001 08:05 PM

that sounds probable... at least for windows... but i did some configuring for linux in ipchains (although i have to say that i'm still green in this area...) so i didn't really expect it from my linux box...

sorry i can't provide any more useful info coz i'm in the dark myself (since we're talking about shooting in the dark)... lol

well that makes for more study on ipchains :p when i'm done with my friggin  exams...
