this is getting worse........

Just kidding!!

Was introduced to Linux a few months ago,and tried to start off with RedHat.That was when I just stepped into hell.See this
The thread didnt help me much. Then I just Googled my grub error message+my mobo(ie,a7n266),and I got tonnes of similar problems and explanations to them.Just followed what they told, downloaded RH 9,and installed it.It worked perfectly. Then I downloaded the drivers for my video card, and installed it.Then I installed mplayer the xmms patch for mp3s.And an rpm package for my chipset.(nforce).Everything worked perfectly.
And now,i tried wine and winex, was able to install them, but nothing seems to work with these.I did 'perl ./winecheck' and got 65% correct.and still lots of problems.I tried reinstalling wine, and got a different problem.and now I am getting some 'Segmentation Fault'.Well, wine is just getting developed. And that is fine.(I will try that again, with newer versions.).So,everything is quite okay with linux. And I boot to XP nowadays only to play MaxPyne. And I am having the CDs of DRAKE and Debian and a 'boot-from-CD' called Slackware Live!.Will try them out over the next weekend.
I am not at all satisfied with the looks of KDE/Gnome.and redhat doesnt ship any wmanagers with their 3 cds.(except the poor TWM).So how can I improve the looks of my desktops??And which all are the better wmanagers among wmaker, blackbox etc??
And is there any substitute for wine/winex??What is this Win4Lin??
If I am able to solve the last two probs, then no more XP in my comp!!

And another problem.I downloaded 2.6beta.(So that I can compile it for my chipset support.. I tried make mrperfect(or something like that from /usr/src/blah2.6blah).no probs.I copied my old .config files(all of them) to the /usr/src/linux2.6blahblah directory and then tried 'make oldconfig'.Just pressed y or m or n.....frankly speaking,randomly.('n'- only in those cases where I thought wont effect my comp.).then I tied 'make bzImage'.No probs. Then tried 'make modules modules_install' .There I got some error.(the error refers to some lines the source code of some program.)
What should I do next??
****************************
I will have access to this comp only on next weekend. So no log files, etc etc...........

win4lin allows one to run ms-windows as an application within linux. I find it is mainly good for general office applications, though I find I need it about as much as I need ms-windows which is about 0. It is available from Netraverse, with I believe, a trial license available for free. Vmware is another option as well. I do find it somewhat cool to run windows as a linux application.

It does not (last I knew) support DirectX yet, and as a result most games do not work. If you like to play a lot of leading edge games I do not see any choice as of yet except to keep a dual boot system around.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
