the tierra network project
i was wondering if anyone had ever heard of a project called tierra?
tierra is a program developed by tropical biologist tom ray, who found that he could create an environment for digital organisms (computer code) to live, reproduce, adapt, grow, mutate, and so forth....
this is very exciting to me as i can see some potential in this. to fully utilize the capabilities of our modern hardware. this is something definitly worth checking out. if you want to know more, or allready know what tierra is please let me know. i am very interested in this, but haven't been able to run tierra successfully yet.
you can check it out by google searching: "tom ray tierra artificial"
it should be the first link. thanks.
there are debates whether or not this program is practical enough to reach its theorized potential, and the arguments do have some merit. like whether our hardware could suport rapid code evolution.
the tierra network project will be run on thousands if not millions of computers worldwide to create many diverse environments for the code to evolve through. this is supposed to provide the best possible situation for code evolution.
