the size limit of LILO to load a ramdisk

Dear everybody :

Do you know the limit size of LILO can load a ramdisk

I have a kernel image size : 1.7 MB ; ramdisk : 80MB(compressed)
If I use the same kernel image (support 256MB ramdisk) and smaller compressed ramdisk image(1MB), the system can boot successfully.
But If I try to use LILO and this kernel image to locad 80MB compressed ramdisk image the screen just show follows :

LILO loading XXXX................................................................................................ .................................................................................................... .................................................................................................... ............................................................................................

and paused !
