The open with dialog in iceweasel is not opening iceweasel!

The title may sound confusing but that is the case pretty much.

When I download a file, lets say text file I want it to open straight away in iceweseal. So in the "open With" dialog box if I choose iceweseal it is not opening the file in it. It just downloads the text file.

I have no clue what place to start having a look in order to solve this problem.
Any help would be highly appreciated.

thank you.

It's a long-standing firefox bug/request. Try the Open In Browser extension.

The problem is we dont want to use any extensions.. Is it anything to do with the iceweseal version? I am currently using icweseal 2.X and i even tried it on 3.X so I doubt it is an iceweseal problem as they would have fixed it by now..isnt it?

Thank you for your inputs david..

Read the bug reports, linked to on the above page. Until they address those, your only real choice is the extension.

The only other thing I can think of is that it might be possible to write some sort of script that you can "open" the file with; that is, one that would download the file to a temp directory, then automatically re-open it as a local file in the browser. I don't know how feasible that would be, off-hand.

Thank you David. That was pretty helpful, I appreciate that.

Sorry to bother again. But i think if it is a iceweseal/mozilla bug then when i tried the same with mozilla 3.6.10 it did work properly but when i tried with iceweseal 3.X it dint. I will just repeat the steps what I did as may be I am not able to express the exact problem.

Step 1. Opened email
Step 2. clicked on "download" to download the text file.
Step 3. The "open With" dialog box popups.
Step 4. in the open with option I browse and select "mozilla/iceweseal" as the application to open with.
Step 5. It does not open any file in iceweseal 3.X where as it opens up in mozilla 3.6.10

Hope I am able to express what i wanted to say.
Thank you.
