The left bar and the right corner is hidden in Ubuntu deskop 16.04

Suddenly the left bar is missing. Therefore I can't get the word processor program.

On the right corner icons are missing. So I can't shutdown properly.

For some reason, they are hidden.

I tried 'xrandr ' command. This changes the screen resolution.

No, it does not work. The command works. However, the right corner and the left bar is missing.

Very strange problem.

Please help me.

I can right click on the desktop and get the shell. So I can write commands.

I can shutdown the computer using the following:
sudo shutdown -h

Alt + Tab combination also dead.

Thanks end for the help
.................................................................................................... .........
For 12.04 And Newer

Change to tty1 by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 and log in.
Install compizconfig-settings-manager by running
sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager
Then run it by doing this:

export DISPLAY=:0
ccsm
The first part tells the terminal which display you want it to load on (otherwise it won't have a clue).
Press Ctrl+Alt+F7 (or Ctrl+Alt+F8 sometimes) to get back to the graphical display where there should be a CompizConfig Settings Manager screen sitting there.
Find the Unity plugin. Enable it. CCSM
Everything should spring into life but if it doesn't, you might have to restart. You can do that by going back to tty1 and running sudo reboot.

If unity still does not load try:
dconf reset -f /org/compiz/
unity --reset-icons &disown

Reboot if it doesn't work right away.
.................................................................................................... ........

It wants me to install 'compizconfig '.

I followed all the instructions and installed; it worked fine.

When I restart the computer everything has gone.

What is the problem?

Thanks ardvark for the help.

The following commands do not work.
sudo apt-get --reinstall ubuntu-desktop unity,
sudo service lightdm restart

THIS IS HELL OF A PROBLEM FOR ME.

The following commands, as a root user, get me only the left bar. Not the right corner icons.

dconf reset -f /org/compiz/
unity --reset-icons &disown

So I can open the word processor program.

However, everything disappears when I shutdown the computer.

Every time I start the computer, I am forced to write the commands.

PLEASE HELP ME.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I write the command 'ccsm', I get the Unity launcher program on to the screen.
I can click to activate the Unity program, nothing happens.
