The internet and soft links

A lot of times I run into clients recognizing soft links as files rather than directories. For example, I'm using Dreamweaver to edit my http://osrv.servehttp.com site, and when I click on the users directory tree to expand it, Dreamweaver gives me a 550 error saying "No such file or directory." Same with ProFTPD, it hates soft links. I can't CWD into a soft link.

How can I fix all this??

Thanks!
