Telnet remote assistance?

Hi, okay i've only heard of this but have no clue how it works. I've heard you can access a linux box through telnet. How? I'm running RedHat 8.0, and would really like to be able to access it while i'm at school and do some work on it. How do I setup my redhat 8.0 to allow someone to connect to it through telnet, and then what must I do to access it from another computer?

Thanks in advance

first of all (i'll keep it simple since you seem new to networking) you don't want to use telnet because it sends everything, including passwords, as clear text (clear text is just plain asciii being transmitted across the network to anybody who is listening). ssh is a 'telnet like' service that encrypts everything sent. there is an SSH-HOWTO at, i suggest you start there
