tail problems

I've just configured the ppp connection using the PPP-HOWTO, but now it seems that my /var/log/messages is constantly being tailed and displayed even after i've killed the process and rebooted. Every small message now pops up whenever i'm using the console and it's getting quite annoying... It's probably simple enough to stop but i can't figure it out!

any help much appreciated!

Did you check the file /etc/syslogd.conf?

If you have a rule in it like:

Code:
*.=debug /dev/console
Then you may want to either change it to write to a file, or delete it. You can find the details in the syslogd.conf or syslogd man pages.
