System freezes
Hi
I downloaded the latest kernel(2.4.18) and instaled it succesfully. But now when i use the new kernel my system goes blank. Don't know why. I have to reboot my system. happens only when i am working in x and switch over to console using ctrl+alt+f2 why is this happening |
Ctl-Alt-Fx is used to switch between the ttys, by default F7 is the X and the rest are consoles. Now let me understand what is happening. Has the system actually hung or u can come back to X using Ctl-Alt-F7 or whatever in ur case. Have a look at /etc/inittab where the ttys are defined. One possibility is that tty 2 (for Ctl-Alt-F2) is not defined in the file.
Also check if you have the virtual terminal option set in your .config - manas |
let me guess, using nvidia drivers? Theres a bug with them and using a framebuffer console at the same time, they even warn you in the nvidia install guide off thier site, I suppose the easiest fix if thats the case is to not use framebuffer and just use a standard vga console.
ps, I had this problem too. |
