Question Syslogd hangs at boot-up

Whenever I start Linux whenever it gets to the syslogd part it will hang usually for about ten minutes and finally continue.

Does anyone know what might be causing this and what I can do to fix it.?

It was ok until I compiled a new kernel. I have since gone back to my original kernel (2.4.22) and i am still getting this problem.

Is syslogd listening to the network (-r switch)? Does the system log indicate any error message? Does it finally start or fail? Have you tweakd your syslog configuration?
