Switching between X displays

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but doing a search on Google didn't give me a quick answer. Perhaps the search was worded incorrectly. Anyway...

I'm trying to get Starcraft running under WINE. It runs, but is windowed in my current dislay, and it's a bit sluggish. The StarCraft How-To suggests running it in another display :1 at 640x480 instead of :0 at you regular resolution. So how do I switch between displays in X? I assume there's a relationship for it like vitrual consoles (i.e. pressing Alt-F1, Alt-F2, etc.).

Does it require modifying the XFree86 config to create another display? Do I need to start X again from one of the other virtual consoles, but specify the approprate display number?

well you'll need to load another X session on to :1, then it will be under F8 assuming your first X loads to F7

startx -- -display :1

(i think)

Yeah, the Ctrl-Alt-F8 switches, but I ran into another problem. The X server I start continually refuses client connections. Switching over to the F8 screen gives only the grey background and the black "X" mouse pointer (which responds to movement). I'll have to research what exactly is going on. It's not terribly important, but if anybody else knows what's going on, I'd appreciate the info.

Incidentally, the same behavior occurs whether I launch the X server as a normal user or root.
