How much SWAP space would you recommend for a server-system based on a Intel 1.6 GHz with 1024 MB DDR-RAM ?

Till what size of physical memory do you create swap partition that's twice as big as the physical memory ?

Anybody knows a general guide on system optimizing (URLS) ?

no seriously, that principle is utter junk these days, forget about it. with a gig of ram, you're unlikely to ever need swap unless you're intending to get VERy hammered.... may as well have around 5oomb if you want to be safe, but i'd doubt you'd even need that really.

Thanks! I'll create a 512 MB swap partition then ... just to be on the safe side

What do you plan on using the system for? Are you going to run a large database? If yes, then you might want to consider a swap partition larger than 1024MB. Other activites such as intensive mathematical computations or digital video editing might also demand more swap.
