Unhappy Swap partition is not turning off !!!

Hi to all.

I've an IBM xseries server with PIII (1.2 Ghz) cpu, 1 GB RAM, 2 scsi hdds of 36 GB running on RAID 1. OS is RedHat Linux 7.2. I've installed Oracle 9i. I've created 5 partitions (/ 12 GB as md0, /boot 100 MB as md1, swap 2GB as md3, /var 2 GB as md4 and /opt rest space of HDD as md5).
Server was working fine for few days but from few days it was hanging during shutdown. I've tried to trace any messeges during shutdown by Pressing Ctrl+Alt F1 to F6. It showing services stopping messeges on F6. It stucking on the messege "Turning off SWAP partition" for 40 to 45 minutes. When I press Alt+Ctrl+del on that position, it started rebooting. Plz suggest me how to turnoff the swap partition as usually.

Thanks in Advance.

In many cases, it will refuse to unmount swap unless the swap is not in use.. is your system low on memory?

I would suggest upgrading this machine if you are truly using Redhat 7.2 and like Matir mentioned, if a process is accessing swap, it usually won't umount the partition. Make sure your shutdown scripts are killing all processes before attempting an unmount of swap.
