SUSE no graphical login

Hi people,

I have created myself a problem while trying to setup xgl on my notebook.

In order to be able to start xgl myself (in SUSE xserver starts automatically once initlivel 5 is reached) I have gone to /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager
and changed startdiplaymaneger (I'm not sure what's the actual line called) to 'no' form 'yes'. So machine now boots into console.

To make the long story short I was unable to get xgl to work and now I can't get my regular xserver to autostart! I have changed etc/.../displaymanager values back to old state, but in vain. After every login I'm back to console.

Now it's not a problem of X server because if i login and type startx - X starts and KDE follows.

Does anyone know how to get my graphical login back to work?

Thank you very much in advance.

I think you've messed up KDM (K display manager) config files. I'd start X with startx (harhar... ), start up Yast2 (or whatever SuSE uses for installing programs) and force a _reinstall_ of KDM. Just make sure that the reinstall deletes old config files also. You could also move old config files away manually, so that reinstalling would then recreate them.

Hi basileus, thank you very for your help. I'm sure that your suggestion would have helped me, but this morning when I started up my system everything was back to normal
I have no idea how or what happened, but I'm happy never the less.

Best wishes,
