I am a newbie and trying to get involve with linux. I was going to try the new SUSE linux 8.0. As with other distros which are freely available for download, i was sort of disappointed to see that SUSE 8.0 has been release a while ago and is NOT yet available for free download (just the liveEvaluation).
While other distros become available for download almost immediately. i.e. RedHAt 7.3 is available now for download.
I don't mind paying money for the OS, but just don't like some one forcing me on that(which SUSE seems to be doin). i like Mandrake club thing; which does not force me to become member. later i am planning to try Mandrake; if i like that i definately will love to support them.
I was just wondering according to GPL, is'nt suse linux supposedly should downloadable almost immediately they release it?
Any pointers on where i can read about GPL licence terms?
Why distribution are you going to decided to install??
By the way, it woul have probbaly been better if you had placed questoin in the Distributions forum, , for next time.
You are correct about Suse and the live eval. Although I do believe you can do a FTP install onto your machine form Suse's web site.
Suse is a really good distro and I will continue to pay for it to help support them. Red Hat is a good choice as well. I don't think you can go wrong with any distro choice.
