SuSE 7.3 console screen

Hi all, can anyone help with this, I have recently installed my new SuSE 7.2, all is ok, it's just that the console screen is in a window that has SuSE splashed across it with a green and white border and as such doesn't use the whole screen, this window is not a kde window afaik, the other consoles are ok i.e. Alt-Ctrl-F2 to F6.

Regards
Dave

not sure of the question but if you want to get rid of the unasked for console at startup:

go to : /usr/lib/x11/xdm/xsetup and comment out the last five lines

# (
# exec setuid yada yada yada
# ) & echo $! > yada yada yada
#
#exit 0

if you recompile your kernel it should go away... and if you want the nice display you get on the other consoles at installation time, make sure you compile your kernel with framebuffer and vesa support... then add a line like 'vga=791' to your /etc/lilo.conf

Thanks for the replies, I've never recompiled the kernel before so I is thinking I will leave this as it is. I can't believe I have to recompile the kernal to remove this, oh well.

If you can only switch consoles with <ctrl>+<alt>+<function key> then it would appear that you are starting an xwindows session (probably KDE by default). If you only want to boot to a console, fire up 'yast' and from 'system administration' select (the menu item regarding login - gui or console. I'm away from my linux boxes for a while here...)
