Smile Suse 10, system Restore from Outside of the O.S? is it possible.

Ok, am pretty new to linux myself, but long story short we've got this Suse 10 server at work, its in a Raid 1 config, got Suse 10 on it.
What we'd like to do when we've finished building this machine is take an image of all settings, partitions, config etc, and then be able to put this to backup, then be able to build any fitire machines from scratch by using this image, so that it would install everything, O.S, settings etc.

is this possible from outside of the O.S as i see you can make these .tar files to backup with and also restore but that s when you're already in the O.S

thanks.
