surge protector

I did a search and there is not topic for this anywhere? Only 3 post? Anyways. If I buy a surge protector, one of the ones that can self power for a bit if the power goes out can it also safely send halt commands to linux to shutdown? The ones I looked at all say they have software for WinXP etc. What about for Linux. I have Slackware 8 with kernel 2.2.19, if this makes a difference.

A surge protector and a UPS are two different things.

I use an APC BackUPS 450 pro for my home computer. This supports Linux just fine.

Exactly, get a better and you'll thank yourself in the long run. I have a 350 brick. It gives the puter 6 mins of juice.
