Sun Sparc Enterprise E450

Has anyone gotten Linux to load and run on an E450??

Are there any specific pointers and gotcha's?

Yes.

Now, is this something you actually want to use or just do as a learning tool? You realize this is a 12 year old computer. And even though it has SPARC processors, you will get much more computing power from the cheapest new PC you can find. Not to mention, that the energy bill savings will probably pay for the new machine in less than a year.

I enjoy the challenge. I don't care that they're old. The nearest quad CPU PC board I can find is a Tyan and it's $4400. I can still sell working Sun e450's for two thousand dollars (with Solaris on them).

I've tried running Fedora installers on my E450 but it wont run. ie

boot cdrom install - text

Then it moans about not being able to run the file just loaded. I just want to know what to do, what version is required etc etc.
