suggestions to output to root window

Im trying to find a method of getting programs like top or netstat to print to the root window. Sort of like what root-tail does but with constant updating. Any ideas? Xorg and blackbox on the system.

solved

OK if anyone cares heres how I did it. Got a program called torsmo and added this line:

[btartsa@h3apI ~]$ cat .torsmorc_xnetstat | grep netstat
${color green}Netstat:$color ${exec netstat -atu}

in the .torsmorc config file. A few other settings need some fixing as well for refreshing and such. Then I copied the config and made a few different versions to be found by a quick shell script for different functions like top etc.

[btartsa@h3apI ~]$ cat xnetstat
#!/bin/bash

torsmo -c $HOME/.torsmorc_xnetstat

just noticed another similar program called conky that seems more advanced.

hope this is of some use to someone...enjoy
