Suggestions for a distro that is source based, non-slackware?

I would like some suggestions on a linux distibution that uses source
packages and is not Slackware or Slackware based.
I am currently using Arch Linux, which I absolutely love, and it will most likely remain my primary O.S.. I would like to "play around" with
another O.S..
I am nowhere near being a Linux expert, but I have installed and used Gentoo, Arch and Slackware. I believe that with a little help I can resolve most situations.

Ideas that any of you might have will be greatly appreciated.

maybe linux from scratch?

edit: I guess technically, any linux distro can use source packages because you can compile it yourself. the package management systems are just for ease of use.
