su works but root login fails?
I installed Mandrake 9.1 the other day to play with it and see how I would like it. The only thing wrong with the installation is I cannot log in as root. I can su using the root password, but it claims the password is invalid when I log in as root with it. Anyone ever seen anything this bizarre?
Other than that Mandrake 9.1 is pretty cool.. |
Check your /etc/securetty for commented ttys. Like: #tty1 ... if it's commented, the root can't login thru that terminal.

Hi Pc
AFAIK - you cant log in as root user in Mandrake 9.1 using that "method" - however - if your interested you can login as root user like this: K Configuration KDE Control Centre System Login Manager Aministrator mode butoon - type root password Users tab Uncheck the cross next to Root user, in "hidden users" apply Log out Log in Youll see a new Root user icon to log in as root user for the whole session - Its not advisable to be root user for the whole session however (Im sure your'e well aware - I'll shut up) |
