Stuped DNS Question?

Hi. I just want to know: Is it possible to HOST my own DNS SErver. I want to do this: I want to create a Domain name, lets say.:

MyextremeDomain.co.za which must be redirected to my ip(obviously)

So..if anybody on the internet type in www.MyextremeDomain.co.za then it sould goto my website. Must i first buy a domain or can i just host my own one without paying anything?

Thnx

You'll have to find the NIC that's responsible
for Southafrica and register your domain with
them if it has to be co.za ... there's free domains
(including redirections to dynamic IP's) available,
though. Have a search on the forums, I've seen
posts pointing to dyndns providers.

Cheers,
Tink

You can only host your own DNS if you have a static IP address, and then you have to go through a registration process (not sure on the details). Also, if you register a domain, it needs two DNS servers for redundancy, so if you want to do your own DNS hosting you'll need a pair of servers with static IPs.
