strange problems with new kernel

Hi,

I got my machine running on a 2.4.20 kernel for quite a long time,
but since I tried to switch to loop-aes and need to recompile my kernel
for that (no loop in kernel), i downloaded the vanilla 2.4.22 kernel from
kernel.org and compiled it exactly with my old options i got from the
2.4.20 kernel i used before, only disabled bluetooth and firewire because
i dont have it.

After rebooting everything works fine, but...

My sound doesn`t work. I have alsa running, but all the modules are not
loaded and i cant get it to work.
And I dont have direct rendering enabled on my ATI Radeon mobile 7500
anymore.

Now... my question is: WTF? I mean I compiled everything the same,
the kernel should be almost identically, i didnt change anything that were
not needed to remain the same system, but these changes really
are annonying.

Anyone has an idea why this is the way it is?

hope to get some help,

-shad

ps: is it just me or does acpi in the 2.4.22 kernel not work?

The kernel patch 2.4.22-ac1 has a patch for ACPI. I don't know what the patch does.

http://www.kernel.org/diff/diffview....2.4.22-ac1.bz2

You might try downloading 2.4.22-ac1 from www.kernel.org and apply it.
