Strange PPP problem

Hi!

I'm using Slackware 8.0
Kernel 2.4.6
PPPd 2.4.1

I can't get PPP to work, a very strange problem...

I used pppsetup for setting up the connection to my ISP
The modem dials, get connected and then noting happends..
Then the modem disconnects..

chat[25959]: CONNECT
chat[25959]: -- got it
pppd[25958]: Serial connection established.
pppd[25958]: Using interface ppp0
pppd[25958]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS1
[25958]: Modem hangup

I've also tried to write my own scripts and the results was the same as you can see here.

chat[26973]: CONNECT
chat[26973]: -- got it
chat[26973]: send (^M)
chat[26973]: expect (name:)
pppd[26972]: Terminating on signal 2.

It looks like the script is waiting for a loginpromt..but when using PAP the won't be any loginpromt ???

I also used Minicom to connect to the ISP just for fun and see what's happening...
The result is here..

33600/^?}#@!}!}!} }8}"^?}#@!}!}%} }8}"^?}#@!}!}*} }8}

Anyone who can help me??

My modem is an U.S Robotics 33k6
When i dialing to other ISPs i got the same result :(
But, when using Windows it works...

Hi

Have you tried using CHAP instead of PAP? Saw a post a few days ago with similar problems ?? regarding a free ISP in USA. Change of authentication protocol did the trick.

I had a problem where I was trying to log in with a setup like MSN or AT&T uses with a local ISP and got no prompt. I figure it was waiting for something, so I set it up to send "login" then it worked.

You could also try looking here for the ultimate solution.
