Strange happening...won't boot to kdm.

Recently I had this problem where the computer suddenly jumped to full terminal and asked for login.

I had been trying to get Gkrellm & Seti@Home working...playing with the on/off function of it. But, I really suspect something else because it persisted even after I had removed them. Here's the skinny:

I kept getting the message that something had been remapped. It was in Terminal Mode so I didn't save the message.

After trying for hours to figure out what the problem was I finally just reinstalled. I had made a backup in the morning -BEFORE- I set up Seti so I figured it would be OK.

However...even after reinstalling...restoring my backup brought the problem right back.

The computer would NOT boot into X...but if I logged in and started X it would go straight to the Desktop...bypassing kdm.

I know this isn't much info but does anyone have any idea?

I finally wiped my backups, and some KDE stuff in my .kde directory because I thought maybe it had something to do with it. (But, I don't know how/why since this was happening before I logged in.) I was jus grasping at straws.

...weird.

You might want to check out your /etc/ttys file for the following line:

Code:
ttyv8 "/usr/X11R6/bin/kdm -nodaemon" xterm on secure
You want to make sure it looks like this in order to enable the kdm login to appear on boot.
