strange alsa problem

Hello all,

i have an on board sound card with an ac97 codec, that is very quiet when ever i boot my computer.

i recently compiled the 2.6.8 kernel with out OSS support, only ALSA (a long story), and have been playing around with it, this is what i have come up with:

my sound works flawlessly (minus midi support) when i su and issue these commands:

rmmod snd_via82xx
rmmod snd_ac97_codec
alsamixer (and un mute the master sound settings, and turn the volume up)
alsactl store

after i run these commands, the sound works just fine HOWEVER, i have to run them every time i boot my computer, or into any of the desktop managers, or x for that matter.

another strange tidbit, after i run alsamixer, the sound modules i turned off come back on. if i try to just run alsamixer and alsactl store after boot, nothing.

i am very happy that i can listen to music again, but it's a bit bothersome to do this every time i turn on my computer, or one of my parents wants to use it and listen to some of my music, or listen to a flash animation.

does anyone have any ideas?
