Stopping Users losing KDE main menu

Is there any easy way to stop users from losing the main KDE menu from their desktops -- restoring it is a bit of a pain ---- this is the only area I've found 'Doze to be superior as it's almost impossible for a user to make the desktop unusable.

I don't want to disallow users from making their desktops how they like them but it should be possible to recover the KDE main menu without having to restore that users files.

Thanks

what?

locate the reason that the KDE menu is not accessible.

Do you have a corrupt filesystem or something?

you will need to locate the file for the KDE menu and 'chmod a-w kdemenufile'
as root.

The problem happens when you right mouse click on the KDE Start Applications menu (on the bar at the bottom)

There's a STOOOOOOOOPID option to Remove Start Applications Menu --- but there doesn't seem to be an easy way (that I know of) to recover / add this menu back again.

It's really easy to make systems stable etc -- but try to make them "USER PROOF" is another problem.

What do some of you out there running networks with loads of users do about this problem -- I'm sure I'm not the only one whose had this problem.

Just change the write permissions on the files so that only user 'root' can modify them.

Unless KDE is running suid root. for all users. then in that case change write permissions for everyone even root.

getting the KDE menu back

I made the mistake of clicking on "Remove", and I could not find out how to get the menu back after searching google extensively.

I got the answer by asking the KDE-RedHat forum. Logan Lewis answered the question

> How do I turn the main menu back on?
Right click on the panel. You may have to go into a sub-menu called "Panel menu". Then select "Add Applet to Panel". A window pops up with a description of various applets, you want "K Menu".
It worked for me.
