statute of limitations on repeate postings

This is for the moderators of linuxquestions.org

I know its heresy to post duplicate posts, but some forums won't attract the people willing to give answers as soon as others.

Sometimes no one replies.

Is there a statute of limitations?

Is it really a "duplicate post" if someone changes or improves the wording?

I believe you can *bump* a post after 24 hours. But, you can check the rules here...

"While almost every question does get an answer, we cannot guarantee a response. Please do not bump your post until 24 hours has past. "

from http://www.linuxquestions.org/rules.php

but, if you would like an official ruling from a mod, im sure one will be by....

How about only posting in the forum that you
believe will have greater success? =}

Gee I never thought of that one.

studpenguin 01-19-2004 01:50 AM

it must've taken you a detective to figure that suggestion out

acid_kewpie 01-19-2004 02:03 AM

well the simplest solutions are normally the best.... and please don't insult other members.

If you wish to improve the wording of your post you should edit the original post. If you wish to "bump" threads you are free to post follow up posts to the original thread in which you detail all the additional steps you have tried and any resources you have read and so forth. 90% of people browsing do not pay attention to the individual forums as they will be looking at the "view new posts" page which shows all forums.

studpenguin 01-19-2004 03:26 AM

90%?

Maybe it's just me, but I would think most people are intelligent enough to use the search feature if they really want to find what they want to find.

ezra143 01-19-2004 03:34 AM

additionally, some of us tend to look out for unanswered posts either via email, search or RSS feed. I know that I try and answer as many as i either can or have time to every nite...

That's why I came to your aid - had you
thought of it you wouldn't have had to ask.

Not really, popped up like a charm the second

But I'm glad not only to tutor people
in the linux ways but also in plain logical
thought ... this first one was free, btw.
