startx giving fatal error. Not able to see gui login page

Hi, startx giving fatal error. Not able to see gui login page. remove temp files to increase / size, but doesn't work. Can help me to reinstall this xserver application??

Don't bother reinstall x-server, instead post the error you get.

(Btw, startx i supposed to start a xsession with a desktop enviornment (kde, gnome, xfce, etc) or a window manager (fluxbox, window maker, enlightment etc), not a *dm. (*dm is programs like kdm, gdm, xdm and gives you a loin window).

Please check the log file, which for xorg is:
/var/log/Xorg.0.log

And report what errors you find there.

For debugging X startup, I like to use ssh to log in remotely from a working machine. That way I can see what's going on regardless of whatever wonky thing happens to the local display.

Also, post what distro you are using. (it's probably Slackware, in which case you should try running 'xorgsetup', if it's not Slackware run 'xorgcfg', both should be run as root, they will help configure xorg properly)
