Startup Script of Some Kind?

Is there a startup script of some kind in Linux? If so, where is this located?

I wish to remove Sun Remote Procedure Call (or portmapper) from startup, is this how i would go about this?

Im running Linux Mandrake network Firewall. (Which is based on Mandrake 8.2 I believe)

Many thanks in advance!!

it's in /etc/init.d or in /etc/rc.d/...

but I sugest you first get a book or a guide before you start on changing your logon-scripts...
