Starting a forking program in terminal

Hi,
I'd like to run a program from terminal without having it hooked to the terminal so that I can close the terminal and having the program running afterwards. Is there any way I can do this?

NOTE: I am not talking about the "jobs" command in bash.

screen is useful for that. It allows you to create a virtual terminal that you can detach and leave whatever it is running.

Edit: never mind on the ?? man nohup cleared it up.
