For starters, you have to specify whether you have to start a telnet client session or server session.
If it is client, just type telnet and the destination ip in the shell for starting a session. If it is for a telnet server, go to your distribution's home page and do a search. Also, i believe inetd and xinetd are both used to control telnet, and check to see which one is used by your distro.
Thx all reply , now I have start the telnet service , but it deny other machine to telnet into it ( but ping is OK), it allow to telnet to local host , could suggest what is wrong in my setting ? thx
I have another problem , the server can accept rcp from other host , even I have update /etc/securetty and /root/.rhosts , what service need to start and want setting should be modify in my system ? Thanks in advance.
why u insist using telnet instead of using ssh? it is secure thousand times than telnet.
but if you insist to use telnet, i have suggestion for you to try it, try disable your iptables then restart your xinetd using /etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart, and test whether you can telnet or not?
If can telnet, than you need to check your iptables.
thx reply , i disabled the firewall , it is ok now , but i have another problem , the server now don't accept from other host to rcp file to local hosts, i update the /etc/securetty , what setting need to be made ? thx.
