I have a minimal install of debian etch with fluxbox. I want an Eterm session to start when I log in, using xdm, so I created a .xsessions file.
Code:
xterm &
Eterm -f green -c green --trans --borderless --scrollbar=false --buttonbar=false -g 74x48x3x30
fluxbox &
I do not know if this is set up correctly, my WM runs fine and apps run fine. I do now know why I put that xterm& in but many people suggested putting that line in. I just need my eterm to start up automatically.
Did you try it yet?
If you start it like this you will notice that just an xterm and an Eterm will show up and nothing else.
Fluxbox will not start until you close Eterm.
You need to put a "&" behind the Eterm line - just as in the line above for xterm.
Not sure if that's a typo, but I believe the file should be called .Xsession
You mentioned that fluxbox was starting up fine so maybe that's why. You do also need the '&' after the eterm command but not on the fluxbox command
Just a thought:
you start Eterm before the window-manager - maybe turn it around - first the WM than the application it should handle.
Close every line with a "&".
ok. - so I read a little documentation...
fluxbox has its own config-file (besides ~/.xinitrc - which is the file your settings should go...)
The file is ~/.fluxbox/startup for gentoo
might be ~/.fluxbox/init for you
there you specify the apps you want started, whereas in ~/.xinitrc you can start the WM itself as well as apps...
I'll just point you to the obvious place, since I did not yet play with it: the documentation
