Start a server automatically?

I need to have a voice chat program (Ventrilo) to start automaticall when the computer starts up.

I can't get this to work though. I think i need to make a start up script or something like that but i dont know howto, or where to save it, or add to the file... I really dont know anything about it.

I am running Fedora Core 1, i have webmin installed also... and if you need any more information please let me know.

thanks

So I would just type the script in the /etc/init.d/local file and it should start automatically?

I have the readme file of the program and it shows an example of a script that will start it automatically, so i would just add this in the /etc/init.d/local file and it should work?

thanks for the help.

That or '/etc/xinet.d/' depending on your system.

I have to edit the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file. But here is what it says now:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
#
# This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.
# You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't
# want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.

touch /var/lock/subsys/local

# Startup ventrilo servers.

VENPATH=/home/server/Desktop/ven
VENBIN=$VENPATH/ventrilo_srv

su server -c "$VENBIN -f$VENPATH/ventrilo_srv.pid -d"
But it still isn't working.. I thought i changed everything to what it needs to be but i guess not. Does anyone know what could be going on?

Can anyone help me write my own thing to put in the file... this is where the server program is located:

/home/server/Desktop/ven

the program that needs to run is:

ventrilo_srv

and the user that logs in is 'server'

Thanks again.

You might like to consider posting your solution, so that others who have a similar problem can see how you resolved your problem. In that way, you can contribute to building up the wealth of searchable knowledge on the w.w.w.
