SSH to local console (tty)

Using putty from windows, is it possible to ssh into the local tty console?

Or change to the local console after logged in?

(after googling for some time, i can't find any relevant info)

not *the* local console no, but check out "screen", it's probably the closest thing to what you're after.

i finally found a solution: http://packages.debian.org/lenny/linuxvnc

Creates a vnc server of /dev/tty#

Hmm, interesting, I'm currently looking at using a Screen setup to achieve something similar but can't find any realistic way to make view of a terminal read only for some users.

read only mode is possible with screen, i have a text file saved with some info on how to do it:

Create new session:
screen -S test

Activate multiuser mode:
CTRL+A
multiuser on

Add allowed user(s):
CTRL+A
acladd $username

Remove write rights from session:
CTRL+A
aclchg $username -w "#"

Command to connect to session for the user:
screen -x test
