SSH delays

I'm using Redhat linux machine . kernel 2.4.9-e.34smp version . And

#rpm -qa | grep ssh
openssh-askpass-gnome-3.1p1-14
openssh-server-3.1p1-14
openssh-askpass-3.1p1-14
openssh-clients-3.1p1-14
openssh-3.1p1-14

While trying to do ssh/telnet to mymachine .... the login prompt comes quickly .But
when I give username , it takes considerable time ( 25 secs ) .
I tried ssh in verbose mode on mymachine .

ssh -l username mymachine-ip -v

*somedata*
:
:
debug1: ssh_rsa_verify: signature correct
debug1: kex_derive_keys
debug1: newkeys: mode 1
debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS sent
debug1: waiting for SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS
debug1: newkeys: mode 0
debug1: SSH2_MSG_NEWKEYS received
debug1: done: ssh_kex2.
debug1: send SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_REQUEST
debug1: service_accept: ssh-userauth
debug1: got SSH2_MSG_SERVICE_ACCEPT

--IT STOPS FOR A WHILE HERE ..THEN--

debug1: authentications that can continue: publickey,password,keyboard-interactive
debug1: next auth method to try is publickey
debug1: try privkey: /root/.ssh/identity
debug1: try privkey: /root/.ssh/id_rsa
debug1: try privkey: /root/.ssh/id_dsa
debug1: next auth method to try is keyboard-interactive
debug1: authentications that can continue: publickey,password,keyboard-interactive
debug1: next auth method to try is password
username@mymachine's password:

So it is clear from above that .. it's usually the encryption method that the server uses to

encrypt the data ... which takes up processor time.

Whats the work around wd be then ??

Try adding your remote hosts name and IP to the /etc/hosts file. Takes effect immediately. 30 second delays are very suspicious for dns lookup failures especially reverse lookups.
