SSH Client - A blank stare???

Okay, I am a coder for a MU* game, some of you might know what those are. Anyway, I don't have a whole lot of experience with Linux (it is a RedHat version, I believe). Anyway, I use WindowsMe and I connect to the shell account through the PuTTy Client. However, recently when I try to connect, the connection is never established, but I don't receive any sort of message from the server or from my computer. There are other people who work on the same shell who seem to share the problem with me. If you think you know what could fix this, please help!!! :newbie:

Did the ssh server get shutdown on the linux box?

If you have access to the linux box open shell and type "ps -e" without the quotes and see if ssh or sshd is running.

I went to check further, and found that I can't make a connection to the server on that port at all (via ftp, telnet, etc). I can however establish a telnet connection on other ports with this computer. Oddly, with my laptop and the same version of the PuTTY SSH Client, I can connect to the port through SSH as if all was normal. Also, several of my friends are also unable to connect to the shell, but my laptop and a few other peoples' computers are able...what could this be?!?
