Sound stopped working on my FC6 MythTV box

All,

I recently had FC6 and MythTV successfully installed and working (including sound). However, I was only getting 2-channel audio and not full 5.1 channel. So I was playing around with alsamixer to try and get the 5.1 audio working correctly and I must have done something wrong because now I don't have any audio at all and I get the following popup error on startup:

Code:

Sound server informational message: Error while initializing the sound driver:
device: default can't be opened for playback (No such device) The sound server
will continue, using the null output device.

As I said, I had installed and working sound a few days ago but now I don't have anything. I'm was using alsamixer version 1.0.12 and ALSA driver version 1.0.13. I've tried removing and reinstalling the ALSA drivers using yum with no success. I'm new to Linux and I don't really understand what I could have done. Any suggestions to help further diagnose the problem? Is there a way to reset the alsa configuration (I don't alsaconfig installed)?

I should note as well that it would appear that the built-in sound card is working okay:

Code:

[root@localhost ~]# cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [NVidia        ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xfe024000 irq 50
 1 [UART          ]: MPU-401 UART - MPU-401 UART
                      MPU-401 UART at 0x330, irq 10
[root@localhost ~]#

Motherboard: Asus M2NPV-VM with AMD Seprom
OS: Fedora Core 6
Kernel: 2.6.18-1.2868

Thanks,
Dave
