Sound problem; sndconfig

Hi, I recently installed mandrake on a 4.3gb drive which is only used for Linux. My sound does not work, but the sound works with XP. I ran sndconfig and it gave me this error. What should I do. Should I buy a new soundcard (at the moment im using on-board sound).

Thanks for any help.

It can't insert the module or the module isn't found/corrupt for your particular soundcard. Are you running this as root or a regular user ? Try root if your not and see if it comes up with the error. If it still errors out, I'd say you can either try recompiling your kernel and add the support for your card or maybe download new drivers.

Try using alsa. For a great guide to setting up alsa and other Linux sound things, see http://www.djcj.org/LAU/guide/index.php.

Did you try the Mandrake tool HardDrake? Disable PnP OS in the BIOS and give it a try.

I should just make a ling to HardDrake to the left. I have posted this link at least 8 times today.
