Sound is fried due to fatal error... cpu overload. help?
 
After xmms froze, then konqueror froze, I did a Ctrl-Alt-Backspace but when I got to the splash screen it stalled at loading the panel and then provided the error

Now my sound is fried.... and I'm terribly, terribly scared I'm going to have to do another reinstall. Is there anything I can do to fix this? A link I can visit? Anything? I'm desperate here.

look in /var/log

look at ALL the messages there and see what other errors may or may not be causing the problem.........

basically a lot of those modprobe messages. are they a clue as to what's amiss? Thanks for the initial heads up.

What soundcard do you have?

Also, do you use alsa or oss?

If i remember correctly (i used to use fedora), fedora provides you with a soundcard detection type application. You might want to try detecting it again. Also try the command sndconfig (either su or su -) and see if you can reconfig your soundcard.

If you use the 2.6.3 kernel you will probably want to upgrade since it has known problems with Alsa sound support (which generates that exact error message).
