sound in linux?

I have an intel 865 GBF motherboard and have RH9 installed along with win xp.
My problem is that i am unable to configure my ONBOARD sound in RH.
Apart from running sndconfig...i have no idea how to get the sound work in linux as i am a beginner.
help will be appreciated.

The command shows what modules are running
Go to www.alsa-project.org and download the latest ALSA and install that

what is the manufacturer of your motherboard? Look on their site to see what the sound chipset is (most likely and AC'97 compatable). Or you could look in your XP device manager to see what the manufacturer is.
