Red face Sound Configuration

For some strange reasons, the sound card on my
Dell Inspiron 2500 laptop works well under Mandrake 8.0 when I logged in as root, but it doesn't work when I logged in as a normal user (no sound can be sounded at all :-). What could be wrong?

Is that the Mandrake 8.0 Linux only supports sound card for the root account, but not for normal users???? :-)
