Some RPM questions

Hi

I have 2 questions

1) how do i search for rpm's that are installed, ie i need to find the PHP rpm that is installed (im using RH9)

2) How do i install files that end with .src.rpm ? I understand these are source rpms that need to be compiled but i cant figure out how i turn them into normal rpms

any hep on this would be greatly appreciated

this will show you all installed rpms:

rpm -qa

you can grep through that list to find a specific package:

rpm -qa | grep package

or you can look directly, i believe:

rpm -q package

pretty much the same way:

rpm -i package.src.rpm

after you've installed the source code, use the rpmbuild tool...

do a "man rpmbuild" for more info...

i dont have rpmbuild installed, which is really annoying, i went to http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2htm...uery=rpm-build to get it, i downloaded the rpm and when i installed it says

error: Failed dependencies:
file is needed by rpm-build-4.2-0.69
patch >= 2.5 is needed by rpm-build-4.2-0.69

does anybody know what this means or even better, somewhere i can get an rpm for rpmbuild that works !!!

cheers

the error says:

"to install rpm-build, you need to have a version of patch greater than or equal to 2.5"

you can get "patch" here:

http://www.rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/re...4-16.i386.html

hcclnoodles what distribution are you using. If it's an rpm based distro like Fedra Core, you may not have to go round the web looking for packages. You can use their online repositories and all dependencies will be resolved for you as well.
