I have a Conexant Soft K56 PCI modem and i used the Olitec drivers to make it work. It was all just fine and dandy until I actuallly dialed. My PPP daemon died for no reason at all. Should you know the answer to this, please reply. I will remain in debt. Thanx!

If you are using kppp to dial out then make sure you DO NOT have a line in your /etc/ppp/options file which says lock.
